Das übergeordnete Projektziel ist die Transformation zum "Green Hospital". Der Neubau soll als technologisches und ökologisches Vorzeigeobjekt Maßstäbe in den Bereichen Nachhaltigkeit, Ressourceneffizienz und Kreislaufwirtschaft setzen. Für das Gebäude wird eine ambitionierte Energie- bzw. Maximaleffizienz-Strategie verfolgt, um einen maximalen Grad an energetischer Eigenversorgung vor Ort zu realisieren.
